Due to the destruction of the dam, the water level of the Dnieper River is slowly reverting to its natural height, up to 16 m lower. Areas downstream remained flooded for weeks.

It was previously among the World's 50 biggest reservoir lakes. Four canal networks have been disconnected, which of North Crimean Canal that provided 85% of Crimea's water until 2014.
