The once-a-decade nature summit aims to halt and reverse the alarming loss of biodiversity worldwide. Governments have never met a target to halt the destruction of nature.

It moved to Montreal after being delayed a fourth time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. China has maintained responsibility for organising the event even in Canada.
