These volcanoes are located in Tongariro National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage in Taupo Volcanic Zone. Visible at the north-east, the 616 km² Lake Taupo lies in a caldera created by a supervolcanic eruption that occurred approximately 26,500 years ago.
