Fig. 1 - S3 OLCI (16.07.2020) - The Asbestos Mountains is a range of hills in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. It rises from the Ghaap Plateau.
Fig. 2 - S2 (31.12.2021 & 07.01.2022) - The range contains multiple diamond, iron and manganese mines but were named after the asbestos.
Fig. 3 - S1 (14, 19 & 21.12.2021) - Mining of crocidolite in these mountains started in 1893. From 1950 to 1960 production had risen to 100 000 tons.
Fig. 4 - S2 (31.12.2021 & 07.01.2022) - The danger remained secret and the production processes remained mostly unchanged decades after the connections between asbestos and its related diseases were established.
