Fig. 1 - S2 (02.04.2021) - Ten years ago, the ranking of the most polluting rivers was dominated by the great rivers of China & India.
A study last year showed that the Philippines is now the most important plastic polluter of the oceans, contributing to 36% of the global plastic waste.
Fig. 2 - S2 (01.02.2023) - 7 of 10 major polluting rivers were in the Philippines, with Pasig River identified as the top plastic pollution source.
